I got multiple quotes and Porters were competitive for the work I needed done.

They were clearly quite busy, and my job was delayed once. That's the only negative in an otherwise positive experience.

    2) An engine oil leak (which my pavement showed no evidence of)

The only difference between highway robbers & these "businessman", is that they have an ABN so they can rob you legally. I took my car in for a roadworthy which had always been well maintained, the mechanic informed me that they would need to fix:

Absolutely useless. Asked them to do the work needed on the car before doing a roadworthy check. They didn’t do any work and charge me for a failed roadworthy.

It would be more cost effective to drive your vehicle off a bridge & collect on the insurance money & just buy a new car rather than to take it to these licensed criminals for repairs. 0/5 stars

Some trouble was had replacing the drive shaft boot, which extended the time to complete the job, but that resulted in no increase on the quoted cost.

All of which would come to a grand total of $1180 (because they had to "order some parts in"). I go to pick up my vehicle & look at the tax invoice, and they had done 7 other repairs that they failed to inform me of in the quote, including an entire front windscreen change (why wasn't I informed of that during the quote? I saw no evidence of chips in my windshield, and you'd think that would be one of the first things they would notice & tell me about when I first brought it in) which put another extra $100 onto my invoice. Grand total - $1292.40 (which cost more than the car it self because I got a really good deal due to circumstance). I knew from the moment he gave me the quote he was ripping me off, but I didn't want to waste more money buying another permit from Vicroads to drive it, and I just wanted to get on with getting my vehicle on the road. But these guys really thought I was stupid (and maybe I am a little for allowing them to service my car), but they are worse - they are cheap con artists who smile at you when taking your money. To add a little more salt in the wound, they had trouble drudging up the $7.60 change they owed me, so they had to go around to all the mechanics on site asking for coins. A shameful display.
